Onshore / Downstream Energy

We write a broad book of downstream and midstream business, covering entities involved in the processing, distributing and refining of hydrocarbons as well as power generation.

  • Overview

We write a broad book of business, covering entities involved in the processing, distributing and refining of hydrocarbons. We also write power generation and utilities.

Our client base reflects a wide variety of industry players including:

    • National Oil Companies (NOC)
    • Fully integrated and global oil & gas companies
    • Members of Oil Industry Limited (OIL)
    • Gas processing plant operators
    • Midstream / Distribution / Marketing companies
    • Downstream companies
    • LNG terminals / facility / train operators
    • Refining companies
    • Petrochemical companies
    • Power Generation companies / Utilities (co-generation, combined cycle, thermal, biomass)
    • Renewable Energy companies (Wind, Solar, Hydro, geothermal).
  • Territories

Our clients are domiciled across the globe with a large proportion of risks located in North America via regulated and non-regulated operations.  We ensure strict controls of catastrophe exposure and will therefore limit our commitment in high natural catastrophe areas.

  • Risk appetite

We seek to write a good spread of business providing coverage for Physical Damage and Business Interruption on an all risks basis including machinery breakdown and natural catastrophe. We seek to position ourselves in the most appropriate place on client programmes offering capacity for primary, full value and excess of loss layers.

We offer a maximum line size of USD 25million any one risk (this will be adjusted for exposures in areas of high natural catastrophe).

  • Distribution

Although our primary focus is on open market facultative business our flexibility and entrepreneurial approach allows us to consider a variety of distribution channels, risk transfer mechanisms and utilisation of our extensive international network. All business is transacted through Lloyd’s registered brokers.

  • Our expertise

Our well-respected energy team has considerable experience accumulated over decades having undertaken numerous roles within the industry including risk management, broking, claims handling and, of course, underwriting.  This provides them strong technical and practical knowledge as well as a comprehensive network of relationships within the market.  This unique understanding of onshore / downstream energy risks, backed by superior modelling capabilities, actuarial discipline and a specialist claims team, gives us the ability to provide swift decisions which is welcomed by brokers and insurance buyers.
